Money Talk: About the Economy
Sooooo….everyone’s talking about the economy these days. Seems like we’ve hit a true recession, but some people are actually worried we’d have another Great Depression.
Well, they should all calm down. (What, a voice of hope!? Or at minimum, a voice of reason????) Yes it’s hard out there. Yes a lot of things have gone wrong: banks screwed up left and right and now...
Q&A: Lame Ducks and Why the Big Delay
Question: What’s a Lame Duck, anyway?
Lol, Lame Duck is one of the funnier political terms, we think. A “Lame Duck” is the name for the President who’s living out the very end of his term as President, while the President Elect waits in the wings.
You might be thinking, “Well - the election is over. Why can’t Obama just take over right now?”
See,...
DRAMA!!!!!!
Wow. Ok so for sure you’ve all heard about the craziness that is going down in Illinios. Apparently for some reason, Illinois Governor Blagojevich thought Obama’s recently vacated Senator’s seat was his golden ticket - the Governor is supposed to APPOINT the next Senator, not SELL THE POSITION. But that’s exactly what Blagojevich tried to do!! Wiretaps revealed the Governor...
Obama Builds His Cabinet
So the latest news with our President Elect Barack Obama has been ALL about who’s going in his Cabinet. LOL…what’s a Cabinet you ask? And who is he trying to stuff in there? Before we talk about WHO Obama’s putting in his Cabinet, lets talk about WHAT a Cabinet actually is.
The Cabinet is pretty much the President’s posse, lol - a group of the most senior appointed...

Youth Vote will Make the Difference in 08!
“A new generation is coming up, and they are more engaged than their predecessors,” said University of Maryland Research Scholar Peter Levine. “They are already voting more and also volunteering at a higher rate.”
It’s the truth, this election will be MADE by the young voters of America. Typically the ones labled “Least Likely to Show Up” to vote,...

Soo....about those debates.
We find that one of the most CONFUSING things about politics is that half the time, politicians aren’t telling you the actual truth, they are telling you what they think you want to hear or whatever will get them the best results in the voting booth. SO ANNOYING. HOW is a voter supposed to INFORM themselves, when politicians stretch the truth at every turn?
Well, we actually have an answer...
Live...Watching the Debate!
We’re watching the current debate between John McCain (R) and Barack Obama (D)…we’re watching it on CNN, and loving the hospital style monitor at the bottom of the screen showing how the undecided Ohio voters (the state that seems to swing most elections in a major way) are feeling!
Check the photos below to see how voters were feeling at the moment we took the snapshots.
Q and A (click here) →
A lot of people have questions about the economic bailout (which at the moment, btw, does NOT seem to be working fast enough). Questions like, “Why not just arrest the CEOs who messed up?” “Why not just give the SEVEN HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS to the people and let the banks who made mistakes, fail?” ALL those questions make a ton of sense, and we’ve asked them...
Of course Saturday Night Live skewered the VP Debates from last Thursday. Of course, to be honest - we have to say they WERE harder on Palin but they got a few in there at Biden too. And Queen Latifah as the Mod Gwen Ifill was definitely awesome!
Debate Recap!
Sooo……following the couldn’t-miss televised debate between Obama’s running mate Joe Biden and McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin, a recent CNN poll suggests:
- 51% of people feel Biden did the best job
-84% of debate watchers felt that Palin was not the trainwreck everyone expected
- 53% of viewers felt that Biden was more likely to bring change than Palin
Did you...

There are four candidates for president, not two. Yet Barr and Nader are um, practically nonexistent in the press. And why no debates? How can people truly choose if they never learn about ALL their choices?

Debate Statements: Fact or Fiction? (click here) →
So - we loved the debates! We thought both candidates took some shots and scored some points. BUT, no matter who you think won, was what was said literally TRUE?
Sigh, politics. What’s a truth-seeking voter to do?
Enter the internet!!!! (imagine triumphant theme song here). How did anyone prove anything before? :) Click the title of this post for some serious fact checking - it’s a...

Current Events: Bailout Plans Underway
How are we going to avoid a big recession? Most experts agree that intervention is the only answer: for the government to buy the toxic, mortgage-based assets of shaky financial institutions to try and keep them from going under - because if they DID go under, it would set off an avalanche of financial disaster, including wiped-out retirement savings, rising home foreclosures, closed businesses,...
Obama Refuses to Delay Debates
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama ‘just said no’ to Republican Sen. John McCain’s request to delay Friday’s presidential debate. McCain wanted to delay the debates because of the current economic crisis. Obama refused but the McCain camp held strong - they said he won’t show up unless there is an answer in place as to how to deal with the economic crisis by then.
Obama...
Feedback from a Teen Voter
Our friend Kayl from California wrote in to let us know how she feels about political parties. We really respected what she had to say.
I’m giving both parties a chance, and watch both parties’ speeches, because I’m an intelligent individual who doesn’t pick sides over whether or not I’m a liberal, or a conservative. I honestly look at what I think would be best for the country, not what I LIKE...
Which Presidential candidate has the best plan to get us out of this economy? Some questions are best left to the experts ;) We found this debate on msnbc to have some interesting information.

CALLING ALL TEENS! UR VOICE COUNTS!!!
We’re coming up on your LAST chance to Make UR Vote Count in the 2008 Presidential Election!
UR Votes still Count! The 2008 presidential election is around the corner, the candidates are neck and neck, and everyone is talking about how it will turn out. Would the outcome be the same if teens under the age of 18 had the chance to speak up? Now through September 30, you can still VOTE and...
Wow. Government Intervention.
So, the government is really getting involved to try to avoid a (more severe) recession. Why is this news? Well “conservative” also known as Republican governments, are usually AGAINST big government- in other words, against the government getting TOO involved in private business. But …. lately the Bush administration and Congress are working to try to stabilize our economy by...

Top Five Reasons U Should Vote.
1. The issues at stake affect YOU the most! Think about it! You’re the ones who are going to fight the wars, deal with global warming, and suffer if there’s no social security.
2. If you don’t vote you’re super lame if you complain. If you don’t do something about the world you kind of deserve it when someone tells you to shut it. And if you don’t care what...
