Obama Refuses to Delay Debates
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama ‘just said no’ to Republican Sen. John McCain’s request to delay Friday’s presidential debate. McCain wanted to delay the debates because of the current economic crisis. Obama refused but the McCain camp held strong - they said he won’t show up unless there is an answer in place as to how to deal with the economic crisis by then.
Obama said he agrees that the economic crisis is urgent. But felt the deabtes should go on.
“This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess,” Obama told reporters in Clearwater, Fla.
“In my mind, it’s more important than ever that we present ourselves to the American people and describe where we want to take the country and where we want to take the economy,” he said.
McCain didn’t change his mind, saying he was going to suspend his campaign to work on banking legislation instead to help solve the economic crisis.
Who’s right, do you think? On one hand, we are excited to see what each candidate thinks and eager to watch the debates. On the other, we agree that the economic crisis is a big deal and needs all hands on deck to find a solution.
